In contrast to the old 3D-4D imaging, 5D ultrasound gives you the opportunity to realistically depict the fetal face and facial expressions.

5D ultrasound is also used to complement the two-dimensional examination. In certain deviations or in the case of an unfavorable position of the fetus, it may happen that with 5D imaging we may be able to bring into view sectional planes, and thus fetal structures, which we were not able to see with the 2D technique. For example, 5D ultrasound can provide additional information when examining finer details of the central nervous system, heart, limbs, skeletal system, or fetal face and body surface.

Abnormalities suspected on the basis of some 2D sections are often worth examining in 5D. One of the best examples of the benefits provided by three dimensions is the examination of cleft palates, which cannot be fully examined in two dimensions.
